Finding Leadership Skills Through Camping
For several decades corporations have used day-long events for team building and leadership training among employees. The latest trend in corporate training is week-long camping adventures for employees. These events can be arranged through campgrounds whom offer packages with set up tents in place and and activities arranged with the idea that not all employees can participate in physically demanding building activities. Camping trips can also be more informal, without planned activities, as long as one member of the team understands the basics of what qualities the company wishes to develop, and how to accomplish these goals.
Corporate outings, such as camping, work as they bring employees together in a new environment, facing new challenges not present back at the office. Challenging activities will bring out leadership qualities in people who see that they have an equal chance to take responsibility in this new environment. Communication and teamwork skills are stressed in camping. However, smart upper echelon managers can find leadership ability and resourcefulness skills in employees that they never knew existed.
The benefits of camping include building team mentality, communication skills, both leadership and following abilities, all within an environment designed to provide new challenges. Camping is one of the most cost effective activities tat can provide these benefits, and it is something that all employees can participate in equally.
