Due to heavy tree damage caused by the snow we received in the area, we had to make a course change on the 50 mile route. The new 50 mile route will now be an out and back course on the Sylamore and Ozark Highlands Trail. Be prepared for lots of climbing for the 50 mile distance and 99% singletrack.

Race Update No.2:

Well it’s getting close, I hope your training went as planned.

The weather here in Arkansas is about the norm for this time of year, in the 30’s one day and 60’s the next. We had some pretty bad storms in the state this February, tornados touching down in many locations, including Mountain View. We were lucky and the trails were saved. Along the trail you may see some debris from the storms and a tree or two across the trail that has yet to be removed. Additionally, we have had a lot of rain and a snow so the creeks are up, you know what that means.

Race Update No.1:

I am proud to announce we have the courses set and the race maps are up. We are very excited about this year’s race and as always the courses change every year. This year we will take runners into several new areas, including a section on the Ozark Highlands Trail and the Cap Fork drainage where you will pass by several waterfalls, under large overhanging bluffs and includes over 30 small creek crossings (if the creek is up you will get wet).

Fully supplied aid stations will be 4-9miles apart, so be prepared to carry enough water for a 9 mile section between aid on the 50mile. Once again Chef Cal will be preparing a pasta dinner after the 50k and red beans and rice after the 50mile run including all the fixen’s. And don’t forget the live music! We will attempt to have a low key award ceremony after each run to give recognition and awards to the top overall, team, coed team, and master’s male and female runners of the day.

Camping in March is great, we have a large group camping area reserved at race headquarters, if you would like to reserve a spot send me an email. If you want a more private area there are many other camp areas at Blanchard and within a few miles. We have been lucky over the past three years with weather, yet be prepared for any type of weather in Arkansas in March.

Keep on training, and we will see you in March!
